Flat Tire Help

Flat Tire Change and Roadside Tire Help

A flat on a narrow shoulder is one of the more dangerous places you can be, and it is not the place to be kneeling next to traffic with a scissor jack. Call us. If you have a usable spare we will fit it. If you do not, we will tow you to somewhere that has tires.

Stay in the car until help arrives

If you are on 99E, I-5 or any road with speed, the safest place is usually inside the vehicle with your belt on and the hazards flashing, as far onto the shoulder as you can get. Standing on the traffic side of a stopped car is where people get hurt. Tell us your exact location, including which direction you were heading and the nearest cross street or mile marker.

Spare tires are a short-term answer

The compact spare on most vehicles is rated for limited speed and limited distance, generally enough to reach a tire shop and no further. Fitting it is not the end of the job, it is the part that lets you get to the real fix. If your spare is missing, flat, or the vehicle never came with one, a tow is the faster route.

  • Compact spares are speed and distance limited
  • Check the spare's pressure, they lose air sitting unused
  • A damaged wheel, not just the tire, means a tow
  • Sidewall damage cannot be plugged or patched

When it is a tow instead

Two or more flats, a bent or cracked wheel, sidewall damage, or a blowout that took bodywork with it all mean the vehicle goes on the truck. We would rather tell you that on the phone than fit a spare that will not get you anywhere.

FAQ

Flat Tire Help: common questions

Do you carry replacement tires?

We fit the spare you have. If you do not have a usable spare we tow you to a tire shop.

Can you plug or patch my tire on the roadside?

Roadside plugs are a temporary measure at best and are not safe on sidewall damage. We will tell you honestly what your tire needs.

How fast can I drive on the spare?

Check the label on the spare itself. Most compact spares are limited to about 50 mph and a short distance. Treat it as a trip to the tire shop and nothing more.
